Raw Tomato Cocktail

Unless you've been living in Siberia, on a silent retreat, or just haven't quite gotten to my posts on your FB newsfeed, this week I am taking A 10 DAY JUICE CHALLENGE!

Yes... its been a long time coming! My good Friend Katy knows well, I've been planning, musing and contemplating this for a long, long time. So this time I've decided to put myself out on cyberspace and have my FB friends (virtual or real) be my witnesses! I figured that with more than just Katy, and if it's related to my own publicity and all, I couldn't just back off!

So... today is day 4, had a great day, and found myself craving something savory. Fortunately for me, I was at the Berkeley Bowl, and also there were some organic heirloom tomatoes on sale.. They were soft and inviting and called out to me... JUICE!

I gotta say, never been a tomato cocktail person, but after this little experiment documented bellow, I'm totally converted!

So here to juicing... To cleansing... and to easy, healthy, raw  savory goodness!

Raw Tomato Cocktail (makes 2 servings)

4 medium size heirloom tomatoes

3 stocks celery

1/2 small bunch of parsley

1/4 small red onion (about 2 tbsp)

2 cloves garlic

1" piece of turmeric (optional)

pinch of sea salt

Begin with the celery, parsley, onion and garlic (and turmeric if you've got some on hand). Juice all those with the juicer strainer.

Now, if you your juicer allows it, remove the strainer, and juice the tomatoes. If your juicer doesn't have that feature- no worries! You can toss out the pulp of the first ingredients, then save the pulp of the tomatoes. As you finish, add the pulp to the juice, with a small pinch of sea salt, to bring out the flavor of the tomatoes. Stir well and serve...

AND THAT'S IT! Super simple, nutritious and refreshing. A savory raw, juicy twist, with a taste not- unlike gazpacho.

So... Drink up, enjoy and BE NOURISHED!
